CONSTANTIN BRÂNCUȘI:THE ARTIST AND HIS STUDIO AT MoMA

Press release

A Landmark Exhibition Celebrating the Romanian Pioneer of Modern Sculpture
The Museum of Modern ArtOctober 22, 2026 – February 27, 2027
The Romanian Cultural Institute in New York is proud to support The Museum of Modern Art’s landmark exhibition “Constantin Brancusi: The Artist and His Studio”, celebrating one of the most revolutionary figures in modern sculpture and one of Romania’s greatest contributions to world art.

Bringing together extraordinary works from Brancusi’s legendary Paris studio, MoMA’s celebrated collection, and important local loans, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to rediscover the artistic vision of the Romanian-born sculptor who forever transformed the language of modern art. At its heart is Brancusi’s Paris studio, a home, workshop, and laboratory of artistic experimentation that evolved over four decades into a work of art in itself. For the first time in decades, rarely lent sculptures from the Atelier Brancusi at Centre Pompidou travel to New York, alongside photographs, films, hand-carved furniture, pedestals, and archival materials, revealing the extraordinary creative universe behind such iconic works as Bird in Space.

Brancusi’s connection to New York lends the exhibition particular resonance. Encountering the city’s skyline in 1926, he famously exclaimed, “Why, it is my studio,” recognizing in its geometric forms a reflection of his artistic imagination. A century later, his revolutionary vision returns to the city that so fascinated him.Born in Romania in 1876, Brancusi forged a universal artistic language while remaining deeply connected to his native country’s craftsmanship and cultural traditions. The exhibition celebrates his enduring legacy as a defining figure of international modernism. The Romanian Cultural Institute in New York is honored to support this exceptional presentation, bringing Brancusi’s artistic universe into renewed dialogue with American and international audiences.
