We are delighted to highlight and recommend the 19th edition of the Making Waves: New Romania Cinema Festival, an independent project initiated by Corina Șuteu, curated by Mihai Chirilov, and produced by Insula 42, that brings the diversity and originality of contemporary Romanian cinema to audiences in New York. No longer devoted exclusively to Romanian film, the festival now embraces a wider Eastern European perspective while still honoring the festival’s roots in the Romanian New Cinema and its legacy of bold, innovative filmmaking. Its commitment to promoting new voices, compelling narratives, and bold artistic visions aligns with our broader mission to celebrate Romanian cinematic excellence in all corners of America.
