Ministrul român al afacerilor externe, Oana Țoiu, în vizita sa în Statele Unite ale Americii, a participat la ceremoniile de marcare a prezenței navei-școală „Mircea” în SUA la evenimentele ocazionate de împlinirea a 250 de ani de la adoptarea Declarației de Independență a SUA, precum și la întâlnirea cu studenții români de la Harvard.
Vizita a inclus găzduirea la Atlantic Council a unei mese rotunde dedicate pașilor următori după summit-ul NATO de la Ankara și colaborării România – SUA în domeniul economic și de securitate.
Ministrul afacerilor externe a avut întrevederi cu membri ai Congresului SUA, între care Steve Daines, președintele Subcomitetului pentru Europa (Comitetul pentru Relații Externe al Senatului SUA), Mike Rogers și Pat Harrington, președinte, respectiv membru al Comitetului pentru Servicii Armate din Camera Reprezentanților; Joe Wilson, Co-președinte al Comisiei Helsinki, din Camera Reprezentanților, Gregory Meeks reprezentant al statului New York şi Kevin Self reprezentant al statului Texas, cu discuții axate pe summit-ul NATO, prezența trupelor SUA pe teritoriul Romaniei și creșterea investițiilor și parteneriatelor economice, precum și a colaborării companiilor din România și SUA.
România va găzdui pentru prima dată în toamnă programul Romania-United States Exchange Program, pentru o delegație de consilieri din Congresul SUA și reprezentanți ai think tankurilor americane, după încheierea în primăvară a acordului dintre Ministerul Afacerilor Externe și Departamentul de Stat.
Ministrul Oana Țoiu urmează să participe, joi, 16 iulie 2026, la Conferința Ministerială pe tema resurgenței terorismului politic, la invitația secretarului de stat Marco Rubio, pentru a prezenta episoadele din istoria României în care violența politică a fost un instrument al conducerilor totalitare.
Experiența dureroasă a crimelor și a încarcerărilor politice ne face să susținem astăzi o agendă care vizează prevenția înainte ca violența să capete rădăcini, indiferent de ideologia care propagă violența ca instrument politic.
Ministrul va include și perspectiva UE în baza Protect EU: Agenda pentru prevenirea și combaterea terorismului și necesitatea unui focus pentru prevenirea radicalizării tinerilor în mediul online.

Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu’s Visit to the United States: Meetings on Capitol Hill, Commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of U.S. Independence, and Participation at Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s Invitation in the Ministerial Conference on Countering Terrorism
During her visit to the United States, Romania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Țoiu, participated in ceremonies marking the presence of the Romanian training ship Mircea in the United States as part of the events commemorating the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. She also met with Romanian students studying at Harvard University.
The visit included hosting a roundtable discussion at the Atlantic Council focused on the next steps following the NATO Summit in Ankara, as well as on Romania–U.S. cooperation in the fields of economic development and security.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs held meetings with Members of the U.S. Congress, including Senator Steve Daines, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Europe; Representatives Mike Rogers and Pat Harrington, Chairman and Member, respectively, of the House Armed Services Committee; Representative Joe Wilson, Co-Chair of the U.S. Helsinki Commission; Representative Gregory Meeks of New York; and Representative Kevin Self of Texas. Discussions focused on the outcomes of the NATO Summit, the presence of U.S. troops in Romania, increasing bilateral investment and economic partnerships, and strengthening cooperation between Romanian and American companies.
This autumn, Romania will host for the first time the Romania–United States Exchange Program, welcoming a delegation of congressional staff and representatives of leading U.S. think tanks. The program follows the agreement concluded this spring between the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the U.S. Department of State.
On 16 July, Minister Oana Țoiu will participate in the Ministerial Conference on the Resurgence of Political Terrorism, at the invitation of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. During the conference, she will present historical examples from Romania’s experience in which political violence was used as an instrument by totalitarian regimes.
Romania’s painful experience with political repression, imprisonment, and state-sponsored crimes reinforces its commitment today to an agenda focused on prevention—addressing the conditions that enable political violence to take root, regardless of the ideology that seeks to legitimize violence as a political tool.
The Minister will also present the European Union’s perspective, drawing on the ProtectEU: European Internal Security Strategy, highlighting the need to strengthen efforts to prevent the online radicalization of young people and to enhance cooperation in preventing and countering terrorism.
